Gidhaur
Gidhaur is a small but ancient town in the Jamui District of Bihar. In the early-modern period, it was the centre of the Gidhaur chieftaincy. In the Ain-i-Akbari, it is mentioned as a mahal of the Sarkar of Bihar.
Here is History of this town
Raja Veer Vikram Shah who belong to Chandel Rajput Dynasty founded this princely state in 1266 AD, after defeating the local Dusadh King Nagoria, from here he started to expand his kingdom. He was the Younger brother of Raja of Baroli. The Chandel Rajput rulers ruled over Gidhaur for more than six centuries. Raja Puran Mal, ninth in descent of this dynasty is said to have built the Baidynath Dham temple at Deoghar in 1596 Perhaps you have heard the name of Deoghar very well currently situated in Jharkhand. Today This City "Deoghar" has become very famous, but people do not even know about the place (Gidhaur) from which the City laid down. The chieftaincy also include in Malda region. Sukhdev Singh the Son of Bikram Singh successed to throne and built his capital Kakeshwar, 4 miles east of Gidhaur, he died in 1339. Thereafter the people get references to a number of their chief such as Deva Singh, Ram Niranjan Singh, Raj Narayan Singh, Darp Narayan Singh, Raghunath Singh; Raghunath Singh is first chief account. When the British assumed the government of Bihar, Bengal the nineteenth in descent, was deprived of his chieftaincy for the time being the recovered its possession of later. The British granted the title of 'Raja' to Jaimangal Singh, the chief of Gidhaur, in 1856 in recognition of his services. He had helped the British in their suppression of the Santhal rebellion of 1855 and 1861 Jaimangal Singh granted a territory yielding a Rs. Of 3000 per annum which was rent-free for him acknowledgement of the services that he renderd during the revolt of 1857. He was given the title of "Maharaja" in 1865 and made knight commander of the Star of India (KCSI) in 1866. The title of "Maharaja Bahadur" was hereditary in the family in 1877 on the occasion of the assumption of the title of 'Empress' of India by Queen Victoria. Jaimangal Singh was succeeded by Shiva Prasad Singh and then by Maharaja Chanda Mauleshwar Prasad Singh Bahadur. If you ever want to go on a trip to Gidhaur, then you will get to see the palace, Lal Kothi, Panch temple, Bhim Bandh, Minto Watch Tower, Durga temple along with all these and modern life. Minto Watch Tower one of the historical monuments in this place built by the Maharaja in Gidhaur 1909 to commemorate the visit of the then Viceroy Lord Irwin to Gidhaur market on the main Jamui-Jhajha Highway.
Patsanda was renamed Gidhaur by the name of railway station situated 2 kilometers from town. Gidhaur became a block in 1994, before which it was in Laxmipur Block.
Culture
Durga puja of Gidhaur is very famous. It is celebrated with much fun-fare and religious way. A folk- line related to Durga-puja of Gidhaur is "Kali hai Kalkate ki, Durga hai Patsande ki" Patsanda is old name of Gidhaur & everyone has heard this line, describes the popularity of it. Thousand of people visit Durga Mandir in Navratri those belong from different places of Bihar.
Here is Different Different Day celebration for Laxmi Puja & Diwali. Laxmi Puja is celebrated after 5 days of Dashmi (the last day of Navratri). A one-month-long fare is held adjacent to Durga Mandir to rural entertainment to different kinds of culture program. A large variety of tree plants, wood products, furnitures are sold that make this festival very envionment-friendly. The descendants of the kingdom come here on Navratri.
In addition to it, Holi, Diwali, Chhath Puja, Eid Muharram, Ramnavmi are wiely celebrated.
Sports
Football is very popular and is played daily in Kumar Surendra Singh Stadium (Father's Name of Ex-union Minister Digvijay Singh). Every year a major football tournament is organised. Maharaja of Gidhaur Chandrachud Singh was a member of Bihar cricket team in one-day match played at Keenan Stadium Jamshedpur against English team Lord Tennyson's XI on 29 December1937. Shreyasi Singh is an atheletics Indian double tap shooter, Gold medal winner.

It is one of the few towns of district Jamui where basic Govermental private facilities like School, hospital, Higher Secondary School, Public library, Post office, Police Station, Block office, Stadium and Town hall are available. Bheem Bandh is most attractive & beautiful place situated in 10 kilometers from Town.

Gidhaur is located at the bank of river Ulai, 167 Kilometers south-east of state Capital, Patna. It is Situated at (24.857941 Latitude & Longitude is 86.300369). There's official Languages are Hindi, Angika & Bengali.
